Why did my post fail?

On this page

When a network refuses a post, or Robopost can't send it, the post is marked Error and keeps the reason. This page explains every reason you can meet and what to do about it.

Where do I see why a post failed?

  1. Open Posts → Published posts (Published posts).
  2. Failed posts have a red Error badge and the reason written on the card. To list only those, click Filters and set Post Status to Error.
  3. Click the post. Its page shows Error occurred while trying to post:, our explanation, and in smaller text the exact message the network sent back.

When a channel loses its connection, most pages also show a banner: Some of your channels are experiencing connection issues. Click it to go to your channels.

How do I post it again?

Fix the cause first (see below), then:

  • Re-Schedule the post (from its ⋮ menu, or Reschedule on its page) to publish a copy right away,
  • or Copy to draft and edit to change it and schedule it for later.

See Published posts.

The channel was disconnected or lacks permissions

  • Your channel was disconnected and we couldn't publish your post. Please reconnect your channel. The network no longer accepts Robopost's access to the account, for example after a password change, after access was removed in the network's settings, or when the access expired. Reconnect the channel: see Reconnect a channel.
  • Your channel permissions are not sufficient. Please reconnect your channel… (Facebook) Facebook refused because a permission is missing. Reconnect and accept every permission Facebook asks for. See Connect Facebook.
  • Invalid Instagram User: Instagram doesn't recognize the account anymore. Reconnect it.

Robopost marks these channels as needing a reconnection, which is what triggers the banner.

Why did my Instagram post fail?

  • Instagram rejected your post because your account is not a Business account. Convert the account to a Business account in the Instagram app, then reconnect it. See Connect Instagram.
  • Instagram restricted your account. Please login on Instagram and unlock your account. or Instagram restricted access to your account. Login to Instagram to solve the situation. Log in to the Instagram app and follow its prompts to lift the restriction. Then reconnect the channel.
  • Instagram maximum amount of publications is reached. Instagram limits how many posts an account can publish in a day. Wait a day, then post again.
  • Ratio is not supported. Instagram refused the shape of a photo or video. Feed photos must be between 4:5 (portrait) and 16:9 (landscape). Crop it with Edit image, for example to Square (1:1) or Instagram Portrait (4:5), and post again.
  • Instagram could not recognize your video format. Export the video again as MP4 and upload the new file.
  • Instagram requires at least one image, gif or one video. Instagram posts need media. Add an image or a video. This mostly happens with posts imported from a CSV file or created by an automation.
  • Wrong username used for tagging. Please verify your contacts. A tagged contact's Instagram handle is wrong. Fix it in Contacts (without the @) and post again. See Contacts.

Why did my X post fail?

  • X posts pause when credits run out. Top up, then reschedule affected posts. You don't have enough X credits. Buy credits or wait for your monthly reset, then re-schedule. See X credits.
  • X has paused posting because the shared X API account has reached a billing limit (the message goes on to say that buying credits or reconnecting won't fix it). The limit is on Robopost's side with X, not on your account. Don't reconnect the channel and don't buy credits. Wait until service is restored or contact support, then re-schedule.
  • X delivery could not be confirmed. Please check X and contact support before retrying to avoid a duplicate post. Robopost doesn't know whether X published the post. Look for it on X first. If it's there, don't post it again.
  • You are not allowed to post duplicated content on Twitter. X refuses a post that repeats one you published recently. Change the text. For recurring posts, turn on Rephrase post after first iteration using AI. See Schedule and repeat posts.

If the post went out but its first comment didn't, the post's page says The main X post was published, but its first comment needs attention. Check X before you retry, so you don't post twice.

Why did my Facebook post fail?

Why did my TikTok, Bluesky or LinkedIn post fail?

  • TikTok considered your video as spam. We recommend reducing your daily posting rate to this TikTok account. Post less often on this account, and space posts out. You can lower the channel's daily limit in its channel settings.
  • Bluesky rate limit exceeded. Bluesky received too many posts from the account in a short time. The message often says when you can try again. Wait until then, then re-schedule.
  • Duplicate content (LinkedIn): LinkedIn refuses a post that repeats a recent one. Change the text and post again.

The plan's usage limit was reached

Plan Usage Limit, with We attempted to publish a scheduled post, but unfortunately, you've reached your usage limit. Your plan's monthly scheduled posts are used up. Team members also get an email about it. Upgrade your plan or wait for the monthly reset, then re-schedule the post. See Usage and limits.

The media couldn't be processed

If Robopost can't download or process a post's images or video, for example a broken link in a CSV import, an automation or the API, the post is kept and marked as failed with a message saying so. Check that the file opens on your computer and fits the network's limits, upload it again in the post, and schedule it. See Media.

"An error occurred while trying to post"

An error occurred while trying to post. You may try to reconnect your channel again. This covers every other refusal. Read the smaller message under it: it's the network's own reason, for example a file it couldn't accept, an account problem or a temporary outage.

  1. Fix what the network's message points to, if anything.
  2. Re-schedule the post once. Temporary errors often go away.
  3. If it fails again, reconnect the channel and re-schedule.
  4. Still failing? Contact support and paste the full error message.

Why isn't my post in Published posts?

Some posts never reach the publishing step, so they have no error to show:

  • It's still waiting. A post can stay in Scheduled posts past its time when the channel has reached its daily posting limit. It publishes once the channel is back under the limit. See Posting limits.
  • The account was frozen. If your subscription isn't active when a post comes due (a failed payment, an ended trial, or for a brand, an inactive agency subscription), Robopost doesn't publish it and removes it. See Plans and billing.
  • The post was missing required media. YouTube posts without a video, and TikTok or Pinterest posts without an image or video, are removed instead of being published. This can happen with imported posts.
  • The channel was deleted. Posts scheduled on a channel you deleted are removed with it.
