Short codes

On this page

A short code is a placeholder such as {PROMO} that Robopost replaces with your saved text when the post publishes. Change the saved text once and every post that uses the code picks up the new text, even posts already scheduled. A short code can also have a different value on each channel.

You need: the Manage Short Codes right (or Admin) to manage codes under Tools → Short Codes.

Create a short code

  1. In the sidebar, open Tools → Short Codes (Short Codes).
  2. Click New Short Code.
  3. Fill in:
    • Short Code Name: the name you see when you pick the code.
    • Short Code Description (optional): a reminder of what it's for.
    • Short Code: the code itself, letters and underscores only, for example SUMMER_SALE. In posts you write it in braces: {SUMMER_SALE}.
    • Default Value: the text that replaces the code.
  4. Click Create Short Code.

Use a different value on some channels

Under Channel-Specific Values, click Add Channel Specific Value, pick a channel and type its Channel Value. Posts on that channel use this value; every other channel uses the Default Value. Click Remove to delete a channel value.

For example, {SHOP_LINK} could point to your US store on one channel and your UK store on another.

Insert a short code in a post

  1. In the composer, click Insert Short Codes (the </> button).
  2. Pick one or more codes and click Confirm.

The codes are added at the end of your text, in braces. Move them where you want. You can also type a code yourself, for example Use {SUMMER_SALE} at checkout.

The composer and the preview show the code, not its value. The value is filled in when the post publishes, on posts and in WordPress articles.

Note

If you delete a short code, posts that use it are published with the code text as written, for example {SUMMER_SALE}.

Edit or delete a short code

On the Short Codes page, each card has a button to copy the code, an Edit button and a ⋮ menu with Delete. Changes to the value apply to every post that publishes after you save.

Add a signature to every post from a channel

If you want the same text at the end of every post on a channel, such as a call to action or your hashtags, you don't need a short code. Open the channel in Channels, click Show Advanced Settings, fill in Post Signature and click Update Channel. Robopost adds the signature on a new line at the end of each post that channel publishes, unless the post already contains it. See Channel settings.
