Network options

On this page

When you select a channel in the composer, networks that need more than text and media add their own settings card above the text box. This page explains every card, then lists the limits the composer checks before it lets you schedule.

You need: a post open in the composer with at least one channel selected.

Options that work on several networks

Option Where Networks
Add first comment Posting options Facebook, Instagram, Threads, LinkedIn, X, Bluesky, YouTube
Mark media as made with AI on supported networks Posting options TikTok (video posts), X (posts with media)
Alt text The lines icon on an image Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Pinterest
Tag people The person icon on an image or video Instagram
Video Thumbnail setting (Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest only) Under the media Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest

Add a first comment

Turn on Add first comment and type the comment. Robopost posts it on your post as soon as the post is live. On X the first comment is a reply, and it uses its own X credits.

Add alt text to an image

  1. Add the image to the post.
  2. Click the lines icon on the image.
  3. In Alternative Text for Image, describe what the image shows, then click Confirm.

Alt text helps people who use screen readers. Robopost sends it to Facebook, X, LinkedIn and Pinterest, and not to other networks.

Choose a video thumbnail

When the post has one video and you selected Instagram, TikTok or Pinterest, pick a frame under Video Thumbnail setting (Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest only). That frame becomes the cover. YouTube has its own thumbnail upload, described below.

Facebook

In Facebook Post Type, choose:

  • Post: text with up to 10 photos, or one video, or one GIF. Facebook doesn't accept photos and a video (or a GIF) in the same post.
  • Reel: needs one video between 3 and 90 seconds. Use vertical video (9:16, 1080 × 1920 px).

Instagram

In Instagram Post Type, choose Post, Reel or Story. Every Instagram post needs at least one image, GIF or video.

  • Post: up to 20 photos and videos. Several items make a carousel.
  • Reel: one video between 3 and 90 seconds.
  • Story: one photo or one video (3 to 60 seconds), not both.

Add a location to an Instagram post

Instagram tags a location by its Facebook place ID.

  1. Find the place on Facebook (for example through facebook.com/places) and open its page.
  2. Copy the long number in the page's address. That is the location ID.
  3. Paste it in Location ID From Facebook in the Instagram card.

Tag people

Click the person icon on a photo, click where the person appears, and pick a saved contact. On a video, pick the contacts to tag. Robopost uses each contact's Instagram handle. Story posts can't carry tags. See Contacts.

TikTok

The TikTok settings card appears once the post has a photo or a video.

For a video post:

  • The post text is the caption. It is required.
  • Duet, Comments and Stitch are on by default. Turn one off to stop people using it on this video.

For a photo post (up to 35 photos):

  • Title is required.
  • Automatically add music (on by default) lets TikTok pick a song for the photos.

Can I add my own music to a TikTok post?

Not from Robopost. TikTok doesn't let scheduling tools choose a sound. For photo posts, leave Automatically add music on and TikTok adds a song. For videos, include the audio in the video file before you upload it.

Why doesn't my TikTok post have sound?

  • You're watching on a computer. TikTok's website often starts videos muted. Unmute the player.
  • TikTok removed the sound. TikTok mutes videos whose audio breaks its copyright rules or Community Guidelines. In the TikTok app, open the video and tap View details to see the reason. From there you can replace the sound with one from TikTok's library. Sounds from TikTok's own library don't get removed for copyright.

YouTube

YouTube needs a video. The post text becomes the video description. In YouTube Settings:

  • Video Title: required, under 100 characters.
  • Video Privacy: Public, Private or Unlisted.
  • Choose Thumbnail: upload a custom thumbnail image (optional).
  • Video Type: Video for a regular video, Short for a YouTube Short. For a Short, Robopost adds #Shorts to the description.
  • Audience: No, it's not made for kids or Yes, it's made for kids.

YouTube doesn't accept the < and > characters in the title or description.

Pinterest

Each Pinterest channel is one board, so pick the channel of the board you want to pin to. In Pinterest Settings:

  • Pin Title: required, under 100 characters.
  • Destination Link (optional): the page people reach when they click the Pin.

A Pin takes one image, one GIF or one video. The post text is the Pin description (up to 500 characters).

Google Business Profile

In Google My Business Post Type, choose a tab:

  • Standard: an update. The text is required. Add a Call to action button if you want one.
  • Offer: fill in Offer title, Offer start and Offer end (at least one day in the future). Coupon code, Redeem URL and Terms and conditions are optional.
  • Event: fill in Event title, Event start and Event end (at least one day in the future). You can add a call to action button.

The Call to action button can be None, Book, Order, Shop, Learn more, Sign up or Call. Every button except None and Call needs a Call to action URL. Photos must be at least 250 × 250 pixels, and Google Business Profile posts don't accept videos.

WordPress

When you select a WordPress site, the composer switches to a WordPress editor:

  • Post Type: Post or Page.
  • Title: required.
  • Slug (optional): the end of the page's address.
  • The text editor, with headings, links, lists and formatting.
  • Featured Image: pick the post's main image.
  • Categories (posts) or Parent page (pages).

A WordPress post goes to one site at a time and can't be combined with other channels.

X (Twitter)

X has no settings card. Instead the composer shows how many X credits the post will use. A post without a link costs 1 credit and a post with a link costs 14.

Limits the composer checks

Before it schedules a post, the composer checks it against each selected network and stops with a message if something doesn't fit. Fix the post, or unselect that network.
