# X credits

X charges for every post sent through its API, and charges much more for posts that contain a link. To
cover that, each post Robopost publishes on X uses X credits. Your plan includes credits every month, and
you can buy more. Other networks don't use X credits.

**You need:** an X channel. See [Connect X](https://dash.robopost.app/docs/channels/connect-x.md).

## What a post costs

| --- | --- |
| Without a link | 1 |
| With a link | 14 |

- Each X account is charged separately: a post sent to two X channels costs twice.
- A first comment is a separate reply and is charged on its own: 1 credit, or 14 if it has a link.
- Recurring posts and posts from collections or automations are charged each time they publish.

Credits are used when the post publishes, not when you schedule it. If X rejects the post outright, the
credits are given back.

## See the cost before you schedule

When an X channel is selected in the [composer](https://dash.robopost.app/docs/posts/create-a-post.md), a box above the text shows
**Estimated cost: … X credits · … available**. It updates as you type. If you don't have enough credits, it
warns you. Click **Manage X credits** to open Plan Usage.

## Check your balance

Open **Account → Plan Usage** ([Plan Usage](https://dash.robopost.app/plan-usage)). The **X Credits** card shows:

- the credits available now
- **Included**: how many of this month's included credits are left, with the date they reset
- **Purchased**: credits you bought

Included credits are used first. They reset every month, and unused ones don't carry over. Purchased credits
never expire. Brands (sub-teams) share the balance of their parent account, marked **Shared**. The
**Subscription** page shows the balance too.

| Plan | Included X credits per month |
| --- | --- |
| Starter | 100 |
| Basic | 200 |
| Pro | 400 |
| Agency | 800 |

Included credits come with an active paid subscription. On a free trial, the free plan and lifetime deals,
X posting uses purchased credits only (the card says **Your plan uses purchased credits only**).

## Buy more credits

1. Open [Plan Usage](https://dash.robopost.app/plan-usage).
2. On the **X Credits** card, click **Buy 500 credits · US$15**.
3. Pay at checkout. You come back to Plan Usage, and the credits are added once the payment is confirmed.

Only a billing administrator of the account that owns the balance can buy credits. Others see
**Ask your billing administrator to buy X credits.**

## Spend fewer credits

- **Leave links out of X posts.** A post without a link costs 1 credit instead of 14. Put the link in your
bio, or post it on other networks only.
- **For RSS and blog automations**, turn on **Omit links from X posts**. New X posts from that automation
skip the link, and other networks keep it. See [RSS feeds](https://dash.robopost.app/docs/automations/rss-feeds.md). Such posts show
**Links omitted on X** in the composer.
- Skip the first comment on X when it isn't needed.

## When credits run out

X posts pause: a post that comes due without enough credits fails with
**X posts pause when credits run out. Top up, then reschedule affected posts. Other networks are unaffected.**

1. Buy credits on [Plan Usage](https://dash.robopost.app/plan-usage), or wait for your monthly reset.
2. In [Published posts](https://dash.robopost.app/posts-published), filter **Post Status** on **Error**, then **Re-Schedule** the X
   posts that failed.

At 80% of your included credits, Plan Usage warns you: **You've used 80% of this month's included X credits.**

## When X itself pauses posting

Sometimes X refuses posts because of a usage or billing limit on Robopost's side with X, not on your
account. The post fails with a message saying that X has paused posting for Robopost's X API account, and
that buying credits or reconnecting won't fix it. Your channel is fine: don't reconnect it. Wait until
service is restored, or [contact support](https://dash.robopost.app/docs/help/contact-support.md), then re-schedule the post.
