# Contacts

A contact is a person or brand with their usernames on Instagram, X, TikTok and Pinterest. Save them once,
then insert the right @handle in a post, or tag them in Instagram photos and videos, without looking the
handle up again.

**You need:** the **Manage Contacts** right (or **Admin**) to manage contacts under **Tools → Contacts**.

## Add a contact

1. In the sidebar, open **Tools → Contacts** ([Contacts](https://dash.robopost.app/contacts)).
2. Click **New Contact**.
3. Enter the **Full Name** (required) and any of **Email**, **Instagram Handle**, **X Handle**,
   **TikTok Handle** and **Pinterest Handle**.
4. Click **Create**.

Type each username without the leading `@`: Robopost adds it when it inserts the handle. Copy the username
from the person's profile page on each network, exactly as it appears there.

## Mention a contact in a post

1. In the [composer](https://dash.robopost.app/docs/posts/create-a-post.md), click **Insert Contact** (the **@** button).
2. In **Insert a @handle**, pick the contact, then pick the network in **Select Handle**.
3. Click **Confirm**.

The @handle is added at the end of your text. Move it where you want it and keep a space before and after
it, otherwise the network may not recognize it as a mention. Pick the handle for the network you're
posting to: an Instagram handle may not exist on X.

## Tag people in an Instagram photo or video

1. Add the photo or video to the post and select an Instagram channel.
2. Click the person icon on the photo or video.
3. On a photo, click where the person appears and pick a contact in **Select Contact**, then **Confirm**.
On a video, select the contacts to tag.

Robopost tags each contact's **Instagram Handle**. Tags work on Instagram posts and reels, not stories. If
a handle is wrong, Instagram rejects the post with **Wrong username used for tagging. Please verify your
contacts.** Fix the handle in the contact and post again.

## Edit or delete a contact

On the [Contacts](https://dash.robopost.app/contacts) page, click **Edit** on the contact's card, change the details and click
**Update**. To delete it, open the card's **⋮** menu, choose **Delete** and confirm with **Yes**. Posts that
already contain the handle keep it.
