# Connect Telegram

**You need:** a Telegram channel where you can add administrators, and the Telegram app.

Robopost publishes to Telegram through a bot. You make the bot an admin of your channel, then give Robopost the
channel's invite link.

## Step 1: Find the bot's username

Go to **Channels → [Connect channel](https://dash.robopost.app/channels-connect)** and click **Telegram Channel**. The **Connect
Telegram Channel** window opens. Step 1 of its instructions shows the bot's username (it starts with "@"). Keep
the window open.

## Step 2: Add the bot as an admin of your channel

In the Telegram app:

1. Open your channel and go to its settings (tap the channel name, then **Edit** or the pencil icon).
2. Tap **Administrators**, then **Add Admin**.
3. Search for the bot's username from step 1 and select it.
4. Grant it all permissions, including posting messages, and save.

## Step 3: Copy the channel's invite link

Still in the channel's settings, tap **Invite Links** and copy the link. It looks like `https://t.me/...`.

## Step 4: Connect the channel in Robopost

1. Back in the **Connect Telegram Channel** window, paste the link into **Channel Invite Link**.
2. Turn on **I added the bot as an Admin in the channel**.
3. Click **Connect**.

"Successfully connected" appears, and the channel is listed in **Channels → [Channels](https://dash.robopost.app/channels)**
under its Telegram name.

> **Note:** **Connect** stays grayed out until you've pasted a link and turned on the switch.

## Can I connect a Telegram group?

Yes, with the same steps: add the bot as an admin of the group, copy the group's invite link, and paste it in
the **Connect Telegram Channel** window.

## Troubleshooting

### "An error occurred while trying to connect the channel"

The full message asks you to check your invite link and confirm the bot is an admin of the channel. Check that:

- the bot is listed under the channel's **Administrators**, with permission to post messages;
- you pasted the channel's invite link, complete and unchanged;
- the invite link hasn't been revoked or expired in Telegram. Create a new one if in doubt.

Then try again.

### Posts to Telegram stopped

Someone may have removed the bot or its admin rights. Add it back as an admin (step 2), then open the channel's
**Settings** in Robopost, click **Refresh Channel Connection** and paste the invite link again. See
[Reconnect a channel](https://dash.robopost.app/docs/channels/reconnect-a-channel.md).
