# Channel categories

**You need:** connected channels, and the **Admin** or **Manage Channels** right to assign categories to them.

A category is a color-coded label for channels, such as one per client, brand or region. Once your channels have
categories:

- the composer groups channels by category under **Select channels**, with **Select All** and **Unselect All**
  buttons for each category;
- you can filter by **Channel Category** on the **Channels** page, and by category when filtering scheduled posts
  and the Social Inbox.

## Create a category

1. Go to **Channels → [Categories](https://dash.robopost.app/channel-cats)**.
2. Click **New channel category**.
3. On **Create New Category**, enter a **Category name** (up to 50 characters) and pick a **Category Color**.
4. Click **Add category**. You'll see "Category added".

## Put a channel in a category

1. Go to **Channels → [Channels](https://dash.robopost.app/channels)** and click **Settings** on the channel's card.
2. Under **Update Channel Category**, choose the category in **Category**.
3. Click **Update Channel**.

A channel can be in one category at a time. Choosing another category moves it.

## Select a whole category when posting

In **Posts → New post**, channels appear under their category's colored name. Click **Select All** under a
category to select all its channels in one click, or **Unselect All** to clear them. Channels without a category
are listed separately.

## Edit or delete a category

On **Channels → Categories**, each category card shows how many channels it has.

- **Edit**: click **Edit Details** (or **Edit Category** in the card's **⋮** menu), change the name or color, and
  click **Update category**.
- **Delete**: open the card's **⋮** menu, click **Delete**, then **Yes**. The channels stay connected; they just
  no longer have a category.
