# Generate post ideas with AI

Give the AI a source and it writes several post ideas at once. Each idea has its text and, depending on the source,
an image or a video. Open the one you like in the composer, edit it and schedule it.

**You need:** something to start from: a few words of instructions, a web address, images, a video or a
[knowledge base](https://dash.robopost.app/docs/ai/knowledge-bases.md). Each run uses one **AI Credit**.

## Generate ideas

1. Click **Posts → New post** ([open it](https://dash.robopost.app/new-post)).
2. Under **AI-Powered Creation**, click the source you want (see the table below).
3. Provide the source and adjust the settings.
4. Click **Generate Posts**. Robopost shows **Please wait, it might take some time...** while it works.
5. The ideas appear as cards. Click **Create Post** on one to open it in the composer in a new tab, with its text and
   media filled in. Finish it there and schedule it.

To start again with another source, click **Generate Other Posts**.

## Which settings can I change?

| Setting | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| **Word count (approximate)** | Target length of each idea, up to 2000 words (default 35) |
| **Voice Tone** | The tone, such as **Friendly** (default), **Professional**, **Funny** or **Motivating** |
| **Include hashtags** | Adds well-chosen hashtags |
| **Include emojis** | Adds emojis |
| **Use knowledge base** | Lets the AI use one of your knowledge bases, picked in **Select knowledge base** |
| **Include image** | Generates an AI image for each idea, with an **Image AI Model** and an **Image Style** (prompt, URL and knowledge base only) |
| **Give some instructions to AI** | Your instructions. Required for a prompt or a knowledge base, optional for the others |

The AI writes in the language of its source: your instructions, the web page, or the video's speech.

## Generate ideas from a prompt

Describe what you want in **Give some instructions to AI**, for example: "Tips for first-time home buyers, one tip
per post, end with a question." You get 6 ideas, each written separately, so they vary.

## Generate ideas from a web page or a YouTube link

Paste a web address in **URL**. The AI reads the page and writes 6 ideas about it, and each idea ends with a short link
to the page. Use **Give some instructions to AI** to steer the angle, for example "focus on the price drop."

Paste a YouTube link and the AI works from the video itself. Each idea then comes with the video attached, unless you
switch on **Include image**, in which case it gets an AI image instead.

## Generate ideas from your images

Click **Select Images** and upload images (JPG, PNG, WEBP, HEIC, BMP or TIFF, up to 10 MB each), generate them with
**AI Generator**, or pick them from your **Media Gallery**. The AI writes 6 ideas for each image, and each idea uses
its image. Add context in **Give some instructions to AI**, such as the product name and price.

## Generate ideas from a video

Click **Select Video** and upload a video (MP4, MOV, WEBM, MPEG, AVI, FLV, WMV, 3GP or M4V, up to 500 MB) or pick one
from your **Media Gallery**. The AI looks at frames of the video and listens to what's said in the first 10 minutes,
then writes 6 ideas. Each idea comes with the video attached.

## Generate ideas from a knowledge base

Pick a knowledge base in **Select knowledge base** and tell the AI what to write in **Give some instructions to AI**,
for example "6 posts answering common customer questions." The AI mixes your instructions with what the knowledge base

## Find your ideas later

Every idea you generate is kept in **Posts → Post Ideas by AI** ([open it](https://dash.robopost.app/post-ideas)). Each card shows the idea's
text and media, with **Create Post** to open it in the composer and a **⋮** menu to **Delete** it.

To generate from that page, click **Create new Ideas**. In **Generate Posts Ideas with AI**, choose
**Generate Post Ideas from:** **A Prompt** or **A URL**, fill in the settings, choose the
**Posts to generate count** (1 to 10) and click **Generate Post Ideas**. When it's done, click
**Generation complete. Click here to refresh the page.**

## Are AI images saved?

Yes. Images generated with **Include image** are added to your **Media** library, so you can reuse them.

## Why didn't I get any ideas?

- **Plan Limit Hit**: you've used this month's **AI Credits**. See
  [How many AI credits do I have?](https://dash.robopost.app/docs/ai/ai-assistant.md#how-many-ai-credits-do-i-have)
- **Instructions Needed**, **URL Needed**, **Images Needed**, **Video Needed** or
  **Please select a Knowledge Base**: the source is missing.
- **Invalid URL**: the address must start with `http://` or `https://`.
- The page behind a URL needs a login, or blocks automated visitors: copy its text into **From Prompt** instead.
